Razer’s Blade Stealth line is a non-gaming alternative to its Blade notebooks, and transforms the same slim design into a smaller, thinner, ultra-portable all-rounder. It has seen several iterations since its debut last year, but this new model ($ 1,399) is the best at the moment. A modest boost in the real estate screen without increasing the size of the laptop, makes a big difference in what was already one of our favorite models, and it goes with the more expensive Dell XPS 13 Touch (Rose Gold Edition). One of the best displays, excellent build performance, fast performance, adjustable headlights and no major mistakes to make it one of the best
ultracar carriers ever made, especially for this award, which gave us the Stealth Blade 13.3 inches. The choice of publishers.
Sharp as a knife
For the first time since the debut, the Stealth Blade sees a noticeable change in the design of the exterior. The screen rose from 12.5 inches to 13.3 inches, but the body length remained the same. The larger screen is made by thinner glasses, an aspect that Razer had wanted to hesitate. Though they are thinner, they do not exactly match the Dell 799.99 XPS 13 Touch Edge-to-Edge Display.
The touchscreen is beautiful. A diagonal increase of 0.8 inches is not much in itself, but it makes a difference for this size, and the laptop is better for that, especially because it is the frame size.
The resolution is QHD + (3,200 at 1,800) and, like many Razer systems, uses IGZO technology for brighter, more vivid colors, and that shows. The screen is extremely clean and colorful, which makes it a pleasure to use. It is a little reflective under bright lighting, but I prefer a dull matte finish and it has fairly wide viewing angles. A 4K option is also available, but only with a size of 12.5 inches.
Unlike the size of the screen, our Stealth is very similar to the latest model, although it is now also available in a new gunmetal color. The chassis is made of the same high quality CNC aluminum as the Razer machines are known and the laptop is still as portable as ever. Although it is well done everywhere, I would say that the XPS 13 feels more premium. It weighs 2.93 kilos and is 0.52 by 12.6 by 8.1 inches (HWD), easy to carry under an arm or to take a ride in your bag. It is not the lightest (especially if you look at input or mid-range options), but it’s as thin as the 13-inch MacBook Pro and less than a pound of the HP Specter x360 13 (2017) $ 1,577.95 at Amazon.
It is difficult to miss the illumination of many Razer products – whether it is peripherals or computers, the multicolored LEDs called Chroma have become the business card of the company in many ways. The color is kicked here by the keyboard, each key being lit separately from behind. This means that you can all shine and move at once, select a wave or ripple effect, or give each key (or group of keys) individual changing or static colors. All this is easily accessible via Razer’s Synapse software, which is one of the best applications for adjusting free lighting for keys and peripherals. Strangely enough it should be noted that the gunmetal model only comes with white backlighting.
As for the keys themselves, the typing experience is comfortable. It looks like there are a few extra trips this time (I have the last model for some superficial touches), so typing on this laptop for a long time is a breeze. The metal touchpad is smooth and responsive, one of my favorites in the neighborhood. The speakers produce a clear sound and do not distort at the highest level, although their maximum volume is not in full swing (which is unlikely because you probably can not get too far from a screen of 13). , 3 inches).
The port options are not too many, but most bases are covered. The left side contains a USB 3.0 port, the headphone socket and a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3, which also acts as a charging port. On the right side there is a USB 3.0 port and an HDMI port to connect to other screens. That is enough for file transfer and multi-screen and the USB-C function is there, even if it is not being charged at the same time. However, it is useful that the Stealth does not opt for USB-C, as can be seen on some of the thinnest ultraportables, including the $ 1,299.99 Apple MacBook 2017 at Amazon. The laptop also includes Wireless Killer (dual band 802.11ac), Bluetooth 4.1 and is covered by a one-year warranty.
The USB-C port has added extra functions in combination with the Razer Core, an external graphics box. You can install a chosen desktop graphics card in the Core and connect it via USB-C to the Stealth, which converts your ultraportable mobile phone into a game system when docked at home. The Core is not really intended to take with you (although nothing technically prevents you), but allows you to come home from work commuting and use the same laptop you use for tasks Daily in a game system When you’re on to play a 13.3-inch screen is another problem, but with the HDMI port you can also connect another monitor if you want. This is a purely optional use of Blade Stealth, and an additional expense, but if you do not have a game system or media at home, the costs of the Core ($ 499.99) and a graphics card are always less than an office.
For storage, this model comes with a SSD of 256 GB, the lowest amount you can order. Both color models are available at 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, but the price rises to $ 1,999.99 for the largest capacity. 256 GB is decent for a non-gaming system, but think carefully if you are someone who will store a lot of large media files and other projects because they can fill up faster than you think. That said, 256 GB is surprisingly standard for this price, the XPS 13 Touch and others offer the same number (the standard MacBook Pro only offers 128 GB).
Trusted travel companion
This version of the Stealth Blade is equipped with a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7-7500U processor (identical to the end 2016 model), 16 GB memory and integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. It is not surprising that this device, thanks to the shared processor, it shows roughly the same figures in the overall productivity and multimedia keys as the i7 2016. Since then, a year has passed, when there were more machines at that time there were not really CPU jumps. Coffee Lake desktops (the name of Intel’s latest generation of processors) are just beginning with the launch and a more expensive version of Kaby Lake R (the seventh generation of renewed processors) is coming, but computers laptops have generally remained in place. Performance for multitasking and lighter projects were reasonably acceptable for this laptop, and is a good companion for light work and travel. He also walked quietly during the tests, a bonus because he will not disturb you or the people around you with revolving fans.
Because the Stealth is the rare gaming-free computer in the Razer series, the built-in graphics 3D performance was dull. It is the same for the course ultraportables, where the discrete graphics card (and the required cooling parts) leave the lightest and thinnest around. As such, you can expect to play moderately well in 2D games low lift or easy, but the high-end 3D games are usually not at issue. Any video or render task with a graphics card will be slower and more frustrating, so do not look at this laptop as a workstation.
The battery life is solid, even spectacular. It took 8 hours and 3 minutes on our test delay, which is certainly enough for a day of work, even though this is not the case for ultraportables. The previous model (with a smaller screen) lasted 9:20, the XPS 13 Touch at 10:42, and the MacBook Pro 2017 for a 4:26, while 4K 13×360 Specter was more similar to the Stealth at 8 pm. : 18.
Choose the package
The latest Razer Blade Stealth is undoubtedly one of the most attractive options on the market, and for less money than other laptops upscale. The size of the 13.3-inch screen looks beautiful and elevates an already large metal design, the keyboard is customizable, and it is a fast artist. The Dell XPS 13 Touch (Pink Gold Edition) is probably a bit more premium for a building, and prevents a few minor complaints that I have with the Stealth (a little longer the battery, you do not have to unplug the charger to use USB-C ) but it is also $ 250 more as tested. Because the Stealth offers a clear display with the same resolution and many common features, it is unrivaled for the value in the level of high-end price, which has earned us our choice of editor.
