Ultra Street Fighter IV marks the fourth version of Street Fighter IV and the third version available on the Steam platform. This last repetition adds five new characters, six new levels, a download option on YouTube and a variety of game settings. This is the best update of Street Fighter IV, although some problems with balance and DLC s’ a bit irritating. Yet Ultra Street Fighter IV is a great competitive fighting game that you can play up to $ 20.98 Street Fighter V on Amazon’s arrival – and beyond.
Enter the dojo
The price of Ultra Street Fighter IV depends on whether you have a previous version of the fighting game. If you upgrade from Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, you only pay $ 14.99; If you upgrade from a different version, or if you do not have a repeat of Ultra Street Fighter IV, you pay $ 29.99. Anyway, these are good prizes to take one-on-one fisticuffs into action.
This PC game has more than 40 characters, each with its own movements, strengths and weaknesses. Four of the new characters – Hugo, Poison, Rolento and Elena – feel recycled. This is not surprising because it is actually transferred from the Street Fighter X Tekken that have been badly received. The fifth new character, Decapre looks like Cammy (a character from Street Fighter long) in a mask.
The character game styles are unique and agile – Decapre’s fast and delicate loading movements are a special pleasure to use. The slowest, the Hugo filling screen compensates for his lack of speed with a huge range and powerful grippers. Newcomers are nice additions to an already diverse list.
The older characters are changing, but they may not be the one you prefer. After all, there is a thin line between a big character and someone who should be nerfed. You can limit the new changes by choosing previous versions of the characters with Edition Select. For example, you can play as Ken or Sagat vanilla Street Fighter IV. The option offers many new clashing options but is not available in the online multiplayer mode. This is a good thing because limitation helps to maintain an appearance of balance in a competitive environment.
A new addition, Ultra Combo Double, lets you incorporate the Ultra Combos of both characters into a fight. Your attacks do less damage, but you have more anti-aircraft and reversal options at your disposal. It gives, even more, tools to an experienced hunter to protect an opponent.
The new Red Focus attacks an absorbent armor as it is but at the expense of the three levels of Super Gauge (blue meter at the bottom of the screen that allows you to perform special moves and super combos very destructively). Red Focus is designed as a more simplistic version of the Street Fighter III parade. Due to its dependence on your Super Gauge, the move is not always available for use.
Red Focus also offers other strategic opportunities, such as breaking combos and completing your own combo dam with extra strength. And the new delayed alarm, triggered by pressing two buttons at a time when your character is lying on the ground, improves the game by rejecting the timing of awakening attacks opponents.
The combat zone
When Ultra Street Fighter IV arrived on the PC platform, it was a buggy and a delayed bazaar. Fortunately, the developer Capcom patched his golden goose and made the game a very replaceable and enjoyable hunter.
Ultra Street Fighter IV now works well on our modern gaming PC that hosts an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 graphics card; it also works well on older machines. Capcom offers a variety of shading, anti-aliasing and other graphics options for those who like to tinker with imagery. There are several resolution options ranging from 640 by 480 to 1920 by 1080. Even if all visual settings are raised to Ultra, the game maintains a smoothness of 60 frames per second.
Similarly, online agreements have improved. Here at PCMag, we exchanged fists, feet and fireballs for hours, while we only occasionally knew a hiccup online. It is incredibly easy to set up public and private lobbies, participate in ranked or unclassified games and create tournaments. Ultra Street Fighter IV also supports Steam Cloud Saves (so you can transfer your data to a new PC) and lots of Steam performance.
Unfortunately, the alternative suits of the hunters are still behind a payment wall, a standard practice. New gadgets come in two packages for $ 3.99, but you can pay $ 19.99 for each of them, which is more than what it costs to upgrade Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition ultra.
There is also a cost pack for Arcade Edition that is compatible with Ultra for $ 14.99, the same cost as the digital update. These are not really good deals. It is a disgrace, because these extras would have been unlockable items a few years ago.
The path of victory
There is a reason why Ultra Street Fighter IV is the face of the fighting community and tournaments like the Evolution Championship Series. The game is relatively easy to pick up (no more than the comic Divekick, but it is more accessible than the dense The King of Fighters XIBest Prize: €), has a deep list, and it’s fun to play. Despite some problems, Ultra Street Fighter IV deserves a place in the library of every fan of fighting games.
